Estimated bulk densities for 600+ common bulk solids: grouped by material with variants nested, searchable (lb/ft³ and kg/m³).
How to read this: materials are grouped by base type: the native material sits on the heading line, with its variants indented below. Values are lb/ft³ / kg/m³. Loose (poured / aerated) and Packed (tapped / settled) appear only where a source distinguishes them. Where it does not, the figure sits under State not stated by source and is not presented as either, because loose against packed is what sizes a hopper, a silo and a rotary valve. A single unlabeled number cannot do that work. Entries show only where we have that breakdown.

Bulk densities for more than 600 common bulk solids, searchable, in lb/ft³ and kg/m³, with loose and packed separated where a source distinguishes them and left unlabeled where it does not. ° marks a GQI curated value whose origin was not recorded. ‡ marks a row where a named source disagrees with the curated pair; both figures are kept and neither is preferred. Bulk density varies with moisture, particle size and compaction, and published figures for the same material differ between sources. Use these values for early sizing and comparison; size equipment against your material's measured density.
